Flood Insurance FAQS

Water must cover two or more acres of land that is normally dry or must have damaged two or more adjacent properties (one being your home). It must come from either: Overflowing inland or tidal waters; unusual, rapid accumulation of runoff of surface water from any source; or mud flow (not mudslides). Floods are usually due to excessive rain or snow.

Water & seepage that comes from sewer or drain back-ups, or sump pump overflows are not considered floods.

Building structure - Under a personal flood insurance policy, your home & its foundation; electrical/plumbing systems; HVAIC equipment like air conditioning, furnaces, and water heaters; built in kitchen appliances like refrigerators and stoves; installed carpeting; installed wallboard, paneling, cabinets, or bookcases; window blinds; detached garages (10% home limit); debris removal. Flood insurance covers the cost to rebuild or actual cash value, whichever is less.

Contents structure - Clothing, furniture, electronic equipment, curtains, window a/c units; portable microwaves and dishwashers; area rugs and carpets that are not covered by building coverage; washers/dryers; your freezer and frozen food; up to $2500 in valuables such as art and furs.

Typically, what belongs in a safe deposit box or in a bank is not covered: Precious metals, stock certificates, bearer bonds, cash.

Limited coverage applies. Certain building components may be covered, but most personal belongings in a basement, such as furniture, electronics, clothing, carpeting, and window treatments, are generally not covered.

Boat Insurance FAQS

Physical Damage - Provides protection in the event of a collision such as with a submerged object or another boat.

Agreed Value provides "replacement value" on covered partial losses involving your vessel, its furniture, fixtures, and electronic equipment. Actual Cash Value earns you a premium discount & settlement is based upon depreciated value.
